'Friends at the Firehouse' by Kayla Stark

Cheerful and clever, 'Friends at the Firehouse' is my favorite new board book released in 2020. This book makes me miss our weekly Whiz Kids Story Times SO MUCH! I can just picture how much fun it would be to share with all of our friends and neighbors, taking turns opening the flaps and following the paw prints.

'Friends at the Firehouse' is an
adorable shaped board book with an innovative design that allows the book to open from the middle, inviting toddlers and young readers to explore the fun inside! The story follows the firefighters as they prepare for a big parade. When they realize their Dalmatian puppy is missing, they know they can't start until the find their furry friend! But where in the firehouse is the pup hiding?

There is so much that I love about this new board book! The illustrations are bold and cheerful. The innovative gatefold style and 35 lift-the-flaps keeps kids engaged in the story and help develop hand coordination. The memorable firehouse shape will make the book look amazing on a nursery shelf and encourage imaginative play. But my favorite thing about this book is what a fun experience it is to read with young children. The story is sweet and engaging with just the right amount of words per page for toddlers. I wouldn't be surprised if your child will be reading it to you soon! The illustrations are not only bright and beautiful but have so much to comment on to further engage children. Can you see where the paw prints go? What does the fireman keep in his attic? Who is sleeping in his hat?

Firefighters are heroes, especially to all of us in California. This book is a lovely tribute, a charming story, and wonderful books for your little ones. But my favorite thing about this book is what a fun experience it is to read with young children.
